Apple has implemented Two-Step Verification to better protect your Apple ID and your devices.
Two-Step Verification works by requiring you to link at least one of your devices. Then if you try to login to your Apple account from a new device, Apple will send to your verified device a four digit code to enter. Making it nearly impossible for hackers to access your account.
To set up Two-Step Verification, go to:
- appleid.apple.com,
- Select "Manage your Apple ID".
- Select "Password and Security."
- Enter your security questions.
- Then under Two-Step Verification select "Get Started".
- You will then select a device to be verified.
- Apple will send that device a four digit code.
- You can then also set up a device via SMS.
Apple will then also give you a Recovery Key. This key must be kept in a safe place as it can be used if you forget your password or lose your device.
Two-Step Verification replaces your security questions. And it's important to note that, you'll always need at least two of the following to manage your Apple ID; your password, your trusted device or your Recovery Key. So if you loose one, you'll need the other two to access your account.
