I Side With Apple and Team Apple T-Shirts - Show Your Support For Security and Privacy!

The debate over encryption, right to privacy and security is a tricky one. On one hand - of course we all want our personal details, bank information, passwords, and other important and personal data kept safe and away from hackers. But we also want to stop the bad guys. But lowering our own security cannot be the way to do so.

Whether it's on a phone, computer, or on one of Apple's apps, a third-party made app, to an app made in another country - if bad guys want to use encryption, they'll find a way. And creating 'a key for under the doormat' is only going to make technology more unsafe for the everyday person.

If you side with Apple on this debate and want to show your support - check out these #iSideWithApple and #TeamApple t-shirts and hoodies available to buy now.

Apple's iOS Autocorrect Suggests "Kardashian" for "Lardass"

Apple has a little hidden Easter egg joke in iOS apart of autocorrect.

Seen by actress & fashion model, Lydia Hearst and Instagramed by television host Chris Hardwick, when first typing in the word "Lardass", the iOS autocorrect suggests the replacement word, "Kardashian".

I tried it out for myself - and yep - this is real! Not that I'd doubt Chris Hardwick or Lydia Hearst. However after typing the word "Lardass" the "Kardashian" suggestion doesn't appear anymore. It may be a one off joke.

Try it out for yourself!

11 Things The iPad Can't Do That A Desktop or Notebook Can

   VS

The iPad Pro pre-orders begins on November 11th and Apple CEO Tim Cook was recently interviewed by The Telegraph and mentioned that he believes "...the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people." and "...why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?" Yes, why?

I agree that many things people do on computers these days can indeed be done on a iPad or even iPhone. But to basically say 'why would you want a PC anymore' might be a little too much, or is it? I hope Cook realizes that Apple sells Macbook's and the iMac. I'm not sure if everyone at Apple would be happy saying Mac computers are only for a few.

To me it sounds like Tim Cook isn't sure what can't be done on a iPad, that people still use computers for. Is there anything? Lets find out. I did a little thinking and research to find what people still use their laptops or desktop computers for and here are the tops answers or complaints.

No native USB / Flash Drive / External Hard-Drive / HDMI or CD/DVD Drive support.
Yes Apple may have cloud based alternatives, but a work-around is not a solution. You can buy a plug to connect a USB device - but there isn't a USB port on the iPad or a plug that comes with the iPad - and who knows if the thing you want to connect will even work.

Can't view websites that use Flash.
I agree that the web should get rid of Adobe's Flash player and a lot of sites have stopped using Flash, but not all.

That program you use on a PC or Mac that isn't available on iOS.
Not all computer programs have a iOS version.

No full Printer and Scanner support.

No on device storage of over 128GB.

No File System - like on a Mac or PC.
However in iOS 9 Apple has added the ability to show the iCloud file system on your home screen.

Convenience.
Some things are still just quicker or easier to do on a Computer.

Multitasking with multiple windows - not the same.
Yeah, in iOS 9 you can use side-by-side multitasking, but it's not quite the same 'easy' experience like on a Mac.

No Xcode / Develop Programs.
Here's a thought, what if you wrote those apps on a iOS device? Then I guess your not part of the 'many, many people.'

Professional Video Editing.
There are many video editing apps on iOS and there is Apple's iMovie - but if you're looking for a more professional app - you're probably still sticking with your Mac.

No Full Support for third-party web browsers.
Apple has Safari and has added Content Blockers in iOS 9, however if you use Mozilla's Firefox or Google Chrome - you won't experience their full potential on iOS with there many Extensions.

And I sure there is many, many more things that the iPad can't do, that you can do on a Desktop or Notebook computer. Let us know in the comments what you do on a Computer that you can't do on a iPad!

iPhone 6S: Samsung or TSMC? How To Tell Which A9 Chip Is Inside Your iPhone!

iPhone 6S. Image credit: Apple, Inc.

New iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus users are divided, literally. Not about screen size, but about which company made the processor chip inside their iPhone. It turns out, Apple used two different manufacturers; Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), for the A9 chip inside the latest iPhone models.

But what's the difference? Apparently the Samsung chip is smaller and some have claimed that the battery last longer with the TSMC version. In one benchmark test, apparently the TSMC version lasted for almost 2 extra hours!

So now, if you are a iPhone 6S user, you are probably wondering which company's made chip is inside your iPhone. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing without downloading an app. An app that can tell you your chips model number is the free app Battery Memory System Status Monitor.

Once you've downloaded the app, tap the 'System' tab and look for the devices model number, which should be right at the top. If your model is N71MAP or N66MAP, congrats, your iPhone has the TSMC A9 chip. If your model is N71AP or N66AP, then you have the Samsung made A9 chipset.

But don't worry, if you have the Samsung chip, Apple has commented and said that the 'tests' don't represent real-world usage, and that there may only be a small 2-3% difference.

Out of iCloud Storage After Updating to iOS 9

If your iOS device suddenly tells you, you have run out iCloud storage, shortly after updating to iOS 9, here is the possible reason! It seems that in iOS 9, Apple is automatically switching on iCloud backup for all apps - by default (if you choose to activate iCloud), even if before hand you had manually switched off certain apps - like a large photo library, which may be bigger than the allocated 5GB of free storage.

Users may need to go into the settings and re-adjust their iCloud backup settings to free up some space. Or, if you want to continue to backup all the data on your iOS device(s), you may need to purchase a higher iCloud storage plan.

To adjust what's being backed-up to iCloud in iOS 9, open the Settings app, tap General, then Storage & iCloud Usage, and under the iCloud heading tap Manage Storage. Choose your device and then you can manually adjust each app's backup setting.

You can learn more about iCloud on the Apple Support webpage

- Third party watch complications.

- and more...

Malware in App Store Affects Millions of iOS Users

Chinese developers have disclosed that a malware has been found, called XcodeGhost, that has been affecting the App Store and putting millions of iOS users security at risk.

XcodeGhost is a iOS malware hidden inside a hacked version of Apple's free official Xcode program, which is used to create iOS and OS X apps.

XcodeGhost was used by Chinese developers who unknowingly downloaded the malicious program from a Chinese cloud file sharing site, instead of Apple's own App Store - presumably because it gave them quicker download speeds than Apple's severs in China.

The apps created with XcodeGhost made it through Apple's review process and were available on the App Store for millions of iOS users to download.

The apps affected with this malware can collect information about the users iOS device, but more importantly, could: phish users login credentials with fake dialog screens, hijack opening of URL's, read and write into the users clipboard - which means anything copied - like passwords.

U.S. Cyber security firm, Palo Alto Networks, have published details about this XcodeGhost malware, including all the affected apps which include: WeChat, NetEase, CamScanner, OPlayer, WinZip, Musical.ly, PDFReader, MobileTicket, PocketScanner, InstaFollower, WeLoop, SaveSnap, CamCard, and many more.

This malware has potentially affected over 500 million iOS users for all around the world. If you think you have been affected, or have used any of these apps - you should immediately uninstall the apps (see list here) - or update to a patched version. You should also change your iCloud and iTunes account passwords, and any other apps or website passwords that have ever been entered or copied onto your iOS device.
