How To Set a Passcode on Your iPhone That Would Take Over 10 Centuries To Guess!

Passcode's on your iPhone or iPad (or any computer device) is a must these days. Passcode's not only keep out unwanted prying eyes, but they can also stop thieves from accessing your data.

The most typical type of Passcode's are four-digit pins. Even if you have an iPhone 5s, the pin is still required, and can override your fingerprint.

Now for most of us, four digits is the great middle ground between, security and convince. But! Four digit pins are also the easiest to crack. Just imagine, while there are a lot of combinations to guess, it would only take a brute force computer about 11 seconds to crack, guessing at about one thousand guesses per second.

So what if you want a more secure passcode? There is that option available in iOS. And you could create a passcode that could take more than a century to crack!* To do this, you'll need a passcode that uses the iOS keyboard instead of the number pad.

To set a longer passcode, that uses the full iOS keyboard:

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap General.
3. Then Passcode Lock.
4. Switch off Simple Passcode.
5. You can now choose a Passcode, using the full keyboard.

So what is this awesome passcode? Here's it is! An example of a passcode that would take 18 centuries to brute force*:

1*)-b10-%NQ
(don't use this password...)

*(Assuming the guessing rate was at one hundred billion guesses per second).

If we examine this, the key to a strong passcode (or password) is randomness. No names, or words, or mix of the two. You ideally want a password that is a mix between: letters, numbers, and special characters, that makes no sense, with the length of at least 11 characters.

GRC's Password Haystack website has a great tool where you can test your own passcode's or passwords, and see how long it would take for them to be brute forced.

As long as your hackers couldn't access your iDevice in some other way, like through some secret back-door program, it would be almost impossible for them to use brute force to guess your passcode.

But, hey, let's be honest. Unless your some top secret spy, a Passcode that long, and difficult to enter every time you want to unlock your iOS device, is way too over the top! (and what if you forget it!) But you can still make your Passcode a little more difficult to guess, while still having the code convenient.

All you need to do is make a short password (5+ characters) using a combination of, letters / symbols / numbers together, or even just 5+ numbers. While the numbers won't stand up against a brute forcing computer, it can stop other people. That is, as long as your Passcode isn't, 1-2-3-4-5-6...

Learn How To Use Your iPad with these Instructional Videos!

The iPad has become a hugely popular device. In fact, in Q4 of 2013, Apple sold 14.1 million iPads, alone! iPads, and other tablet devices are fast becoming the first choice for computers in the home. It's so amazing that people of all ages are using these devices. Kids and teens love them, adults love them, and yes, even your old fashion parents - trying to keep 'hip' are coming around, and buying them too.

With all this new technology - there is just one big problem that I see all the time. And I know this because I'm asked all the time by people. They buy an iPad, take it out of the box, switch it on, and then they say, "How do I use this?" Ah! The questions that all the tech-smart members of families hate. I bet either you are the 'tech' guy of your family and friends, or you are the one asking others for the help. Sometimes instead of asking for help, we all should go back to 'school' to master the subject for ourselves.

With all new technology and products, we study and learn how to use them, no matter how old you are. The knowledge (unfortunately) just doesn't get downloaded into our brains. Although there are some 2-3 year olds, that are a little too good at operating iOS devices...

There are two ways to learn: trial and error - and hoping not to mess everything up. Or, by being taught.

There is a lot of great instructional help on the Internet, (this site included), but none are as complete as taking 'a course in iPad'.

iPad Video Lessons, has made a full online video tutorial course, with over 100 videos to watch and learn from. It's like taking a course, but in the comfort of your own home. And you can learn when you feel like it!

Categories feature: All About Your iPad, Web Tips and Tricks, Reading on Your iPad, App Fun & Productivity, Organize Your Photos, Watch Video on Your iPad, and more...

Key features include:

- Ability to learn at your own pace; you can stop, rewind, and replay videos at your leisure.
- iPad tips and tricks.
- Lifetime Membership
- 24/7 availability. Watch the videos whenever you like.
- Clear, and comprehensive training.

These video lessons would also make a great gift. You could get them for a parent, or a non-tech savvy friend.

At the end of the day (or course), just think how good you'll feel that you invested some time, and learnt how to use a new technology.  And, hey - you never know - you may end up teaching your 'tech friends' a few things they didn't know, they could do on the iPad!

Check out iPad Video Lessons, to read all about it, and watch a sample video. You'll be glad, you did.

Learn and Practice Geography with Aliens on iOS game - Aliens Abducted!

Aliens Abducted! is such a fun game. You play as a alien who has been abducted from his home planet, right before it's destroyed. You can given the chance to travel the universe with two other aliens, and name the countries of the earth, in some sort of quiz, by guessing from the countries flags and position on the planet.

The quiz is broken down into 32 levels.  There is also a 'free' mode, where you just keep answering until you lose all your lives.  There is also a endless-runner game (unlocked after earning 10 stars); where the alien (you play) has escaped and is on the run trying to escape!

Levels work by the UFO flying around the globe, and stopping at a country. You are given three options of country names and their flags. You must choose the correct country that corresponds with the country the UFO is hovering over. You have 10 seconds to answer and three lives. The longer you take to answer, the less points you earn.

Aliens Abducted! features cool graphics. Annoying sounds, but you can always turn down the volume. 160 countries and flags. A Library, that features information on countries.

There are also, according to the app, new game modes coming soon, including; Math, and Quotes.

Aliens Abducted! is two games in one. Have fun learning, then play some endless-runner game - shooting aliens!

The quiz element of the game is fun. A great way to practice geography, and learn. Aliens Abducted! is great fun for kids, and adults.

Aliens Abducted! is available for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad). Priced at $2.99.

Free Some Storage Space By Clearing Cache Files of Apps like; Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram on Your iOS Device

Sometimes apps can use up a lot of your storage on your iOS devices. Some apps store temporary files, to make loading quicker. The apps are supposed to manage themselves, but sometimes these temporary files can take up a lot of your storage.

If you want to clear out the cache files of apps like; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, ect... There is only one easy way to do so.

Most apps don't have a internal setting to delete cache files. So, unfortunately the only way to clear the space is to:

1. Delete the app from your device.
2. Re-install the apps from the App Store.

To check how much space certain apps are using on your device:

1. Open 'Settings'
2. Tap 'General'
3. Tap 'Usage'
4. Wait for the list to populate.
5. Under the 'Storage' heading, you can see all your installed apps, and how much space they each use.

Play Real People From All Over The World in 'Shark Party Pool' - iPad, iPhone.

Shark Party Pool by Shark Party, is a new fun way to play pool against players from all over the world.

Shark Party Pool features:

- Head to Head - Mode. Verse player from around the world.
- Offline Mode - where you can verse the computer. (Unlocked at Level 4)
- League, leaderboard.
- Chat with opponents.
- Custom name

The game lets you play opponents from around the world. On each move you have a time-limit, to keep the game moving and stop opponents from taking too long to make their move.

Playing games uses a ticket system. You start off with 100 tickets, and can collect more each day. Honestly, this part is the biggest downside to the game. Needing tickets to play, means your limited to how many games you can pay a day - unless, of course you buy gems for real money through in-app purchases.

There is a Offline mode, where you can verse the computer, unlockable once you reach Level 4. This mode still uses the game tickets to play.

There are also in-app purchases available, but they're not essential.

The game is okay. Graphics look good for a birds-eye-view game. The controls and movement of the pool stick can be either a little to slow or too sensitive to move. It could use some adjusting. The music is annoying, but it can be turned off in Settings.

Unfortunately there are a lot of connection and server issues, that ruin the game. I've had the game lose connection, freeze-up multiple times, and opponents drop-out. All with losing your game play tickets. These issues need to be fixed if they want the game to be playable.  With all these issues, the offline version should be playable from the beginning - not a unlockable feature, and offline mode should not use the ticket system.

Shark Party Pool is FREE to download for iOS (iPhone and iPad) devices

New Awesome iWatch Concept - A Mix Between An iPhone and Nike FuelBand.

The rumors of Apple releasing a 'iWatch', maybe even sometime this year, has left fans and designers really excited. So much that some have even taken the time to come up with concept designs of their own.

For most of these concept designs, it means one thing: That we all will probably be left disappointed with the real thing, by Apple. Well at least, we'll probably think it looks dated, before it's even released.

Because if Apple wants to innovate the watch, I'm sure we're all hoping for something a little more innovative than a iPod Nano on a wrist band.

Now to get everyone's expectations unrealistically high, check out this iWatch Concept by designer, Todd Hamilton.

As Todd points out in his blog post, this design is inspired by Thomas Bogner, who posted a design back in October 2013 of a iWatch, that was a cross-between a Nike FuelBand and the iPhone. Thomas's design however, while looking really cool, had a very fatal flaw; all the writing would be on an angle while wearing the watch. Making reading the device terribly awkward. So Todd over his holidays set out to correct this problem, while adding in his own ideas.

There are more pictures of Todd's design on his blog site. Check it out, and give his blog post a read. I think this design looks pretty cool. However, I'm not sure if the thin screen would be very practical... Sure you can read the time now, press a few buttons, but imagine reading a text message! Maybe a wider version with the same look would be more ideal. Maybe something like the iWatch in this concept video.

Parents, Read This Before Handing Your Kid An iPad or iPhone!

"Apple CEO Cook Not Happy About $32.5M FTC Deal: How to Get a Refund if You've Been Bilked by In-App Purchases", "Apple will pay parents £20m over in-app purchases", "Who is responsible for kids and in-app purchases: Apple, developers or parents?", are just some of the recent articles about iOS games and in-app purchases, and the case of kids making up to thousands of dollars worth of bills...

Well who is to blame? Apple? The app developers? Or the parents? -  I say the parents are to blame. You don't just buy technology, and not learn how to use it. You don't just hand a gadget to your kids, who obviously know how to use it better than you do. You don't just download games and give them to your kids, and know nothing about them.

So it comes down to education. Parents often lack education in technology. And I believe it's a lack of trying, or wanting to learn. It's easier to blame Apple for your bills, then taking responsibility for the gadget YOU bought, and the account YOU made, with the bank details YOU entered.

Before you give your kid(s) a iPhone or iPad - to stop any unwanted purchases and charges to your Apple iTunes account, all you need to do is the following:

To Stop Unwanted In-App Purchases Made By Your Kids:

1. Open the Setting app.

2. Navigate to/and tap General.

3. Tap Restrictions.

4. Then Enable Restrictions.

5. Set up a PIN. Make it something you can remember, that your kids can't guess. This is not the same PIN as a Passcode to unlock the device.

6. Now you can edit the list of everything you can restrict. Switch Off everything you don't want your kids to be able to do. In this case, switch off In-App Purchases.

7. That's it! Now when someone tries to make an in-app purchase, they'll be required to enter the PIN.

Please share this article with your friends (especially if they're parents) to educate them on the subject.

Best Apps To Create Slideshow Videos For Instagram and Facebook

In my search to find the best app to make a video slideshow, that can be saved, and uploaded to Facebook and Instagram, - I have narrowed it down to two apps. It's a Clash of the Apps: Flipagram Vs. Fliptastic.

First app: Flipagram by Cheerful, Inc. With Flipagram you can make either 15 or 30 second slideshow videos. You can select and edit your photos, choose a title, set duration, and background music, either from your iTunes library on your device, or music through the app.

Flipagram's pros are; it's nice interface. It's ease to use. Music is easy to add.

The Cons: No transitions! That images just flash to the next one. This was the one disappointment I had with Flipagram. Add transitions and it'll be the best.

Price: Free.

Available for iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android

That's brings us to app number 2: Fliptastic by Ting Tze Chuen. You can create 15 second slideshows for either Instagram, or up to 60 seconds long for other sites like Facebook.

You can choose up to 20 photos. Use the photo editing tools to make sure everything is right. Add background music, and transitions! Make your photos either; cross-fade or slide away, and more if you upgrade to the 'Pro' version.

Pros: Easy to use. Good photo editing tools. Transitions!

Cons: I felt that the interface, while good, just wasn't as great as Flipagram's. And music... bought tracks from your library won't work because it says they're copyright protected. And there are only a few 'tracks' available from the app itself.

Price: Free and Paid (Pro) ($0.99) Versions.

Available for iOS (iPhone and iPad).

Conclusion:

The winner between these two apps is... Flipagram. The interface is better. It's easier to use. There's a wide range of music to select from. The only thing that this app needs is some transitions, so the videos will look more like a slideshow.

The iWatch Of Our Dreams

iWatch - A Future Concept By FinalCutKing

This has to be the best mockup of the iWatch I seen. Okay, so we most likely won't be getting a iWatch this advanced for a very long time. Even the 2019 date in the video is very optimistic.  But, who wouldn't love to have a device that looked like this? That can create touch screen holograms? For now however, we can only dream...
