Create an Apple iOS Touch App Icon For Your Website - Tutorial

Visitors to your website can bookmark your page, but they can also in Safari add a 'webclip' - a link to your website on to their home page, making your site appear like an app.

Now if you don't have a special iOS icon set on your webpage, the icon will just end up looking crappy and like a screen shot of your webpage.

All you need to do is get a image, your logo, or whatever that you want to use. Your icons' dimension should be about no less than 128 x 128 / 512 x 512 pixels for a higher quality icon, and saved as a .png file.

Then add the code below to your site in the 'Head' section:

<link href="/YOUR_ ICON_URL.png" rel="apple-touch-icon">

To add a Touch icon without the Apple icon "gloss", add this code:

<link rel="apple-touch-icon-precomposed" href="/YOUR_ ICON_URL.png" />

And to add a webpage on to your iOS devices home screen, go to the webpage in Safari, click the 'action' button (square with arrow), and press 'Add to Home Screen'.

Keep Calm and Download The Chive App for iPhone, iPad & Android

Here is a short, quick app review of an app I like but never got around to posting about... Today's is:

theCHIVE (app by Resignation Media, LLC)

theCHIVE Official App - (Left iPhone, Right Image Android)

- Like the website but bit cooler.

- Images are in galleries instead of a scrolling page.

- You have all the categories like the on site.

- You can save images.

-  There's Quick access buttons to: Latest, Videos, Top Rated, Shuffle, More...

- Also features "Keep Calm And Chive On" Wallpapers.

- The interface isn't the best and could use a better cleaner and more modern design.

- And there's an advertisement that's constantly on the bottom, which can get annoying, but hey it's not in the way that much...

- If you love the website, then you need this app for your iPhone or iPad, Android, better than the web experience on a tablet device.

App To Record Your Own Harlem Shake Video - iOS App Review

The Harlem Shake By Hitcents.com, Inc. gives you the ability to make your own Harlem Shake using your iPhone or iPad.

By the way in case you've been without internet for the last month this new internet craze 'The Harlem Shake' is a meme that originated on January 30th, 2013 by a video posted to YouTube by vlogger Filthy Frank with music by heavy bass artist Baauer. The meme became popular after five Australian teenagers made several of their own 'Harlem Shake' videos which went viral soon after.

The app has instructions on how to make your video.

Allows you to record your scenes in parts, has countdown timers, and of course the background music.

The Harlem Shake app is free, however after filming your video if you want to save or share it, it'll cost you a one time in-app purchase of $0.99.

How NOT To Let Someone Know You've Read Their Message - iPhone Tip

Did you know that part of iMessage in iOS, there is a option to notify the person who sent you a message that you've read it? If you don't like this idea you can easily turn the option off, or make sure that it is switched off!

All you need to do is:

- Click on the 'Settings' icon on your home screen.

- Scroll down to 'Messages'.

- Look for 'Send Read Receipts' (it's near the top) and if it's switched on - switch it off.

That's it! Now when you read a message someone has sent you, they will not be notified of when you've read it.

Logo Quiz - Logo Guessing Quiz Game That'll Test Your Memory

Do you know your logos? Has all those advertisements, logos and movies become stuck in your mind? Test your self with Logo Quiz by Jinfra.

Logo Quiz is a image based guessing game that shows you part of a logo of a company/ brand, movie, TV show or just about any other type of logo and gives you multiple choice answers to pick from.

There are three different game modes:

Streak - see how many correct answers you can get in a row.

Categories - which features many different topics including; fashion, airlines, auto, super heroes, movies, TV, food, technology and many more... And

Online Multiplayer - where you'll play in a turn-by-turn mode versing friends or other random players.

Logo Quiz is full of hundreds of logos. The quiz might starts off easy but gets more difficult as you progress.

When you get stuck you can use your gems and coins to buy clues.

Good thing when guessing the title the spelling or the correct whole name is not necessary and the game will tell you if you're close or have misspelled with a orange circle with a wavy and straight line.

Logo Quiz is a fun game that tests you on everything from the media to restaurants, movies, cars and more.  Test your memory and see how many logos you can pick!

Logo Quiz has a limited free version and a full paid version available for iOS.
The paid version features no-ads, over a thousand logos and the three game modes. The free version just features the 'Streak' mode and ads!

Apple iPad TV Ad - Together

Apple's iPad ad 'Together' highlights the words, Wild with interactive iBook "Oscar Wilde: The Picture of Dorian Gray". Bright with some educational learning apps. And Together with four people all playing instruments on the same iPad at the same time.

Movie Buffs! Can You 'Guess The Movie' From Minimalistic Pictures? - (App Review)

Guess the Movie By Jinfra, uses minimalistic images as clues to a movie title. How well do you know your movies? Can you guess them all?

There are many unlockable categories filled with hundreds of these movie icons (pun intended).

Categories include: Best of 2012 Movies, Pictionary, Characters, Animals, Posters, Classics and the Super Hard Pack.

The way this guessing game works is, you select one of the categories and you'll see 16 icons. Each icon represents a movie. It'll usually be something iconic from the film, like a cartoon image of a character or something symbolic related to the film.

As a better example you can see from the image above how the game works. If you look at the first image you'll probably straight away know what some of the answers are like; the second image is the eyes of the main character, 'Lightning McQueen' from the kids movie "Cars". So you would type in "Cars". Then there's the symbolic bicycle flying though the sky is from the movie "E.T.". And in the second row is the arc reactor from "Iron Man".

When you get stuck (which you will) you can use your hint points to buy a clue, a few letters of the title, or buy the whole title. If you're really stuck and out of hints you can buy some more or even ask your friends on Twitter or Facebook for help.

Challenging and yet a fun movie quiz with great little images. If you're looking to test your movie knowledge and love guessing games, download this app!

'Guess The Movie' is free and available for iOS and Android.

New Apple iPad Ads, "Alive" & "Together" Highlight Some of the Over 300,000 Apps

runtastic Heart Rate - Measure Your Heart Rate On Your iPhone / Android

Did you know you can measure your heart rate on your iPhone! Well you can. I've been a fan of the app Instant Heart Rate by Azumio, but it's been a while since any update or new feature and improvements and the app doesn't even support the iPhone 5's taller screen...

Recently I found this app Heart Rate by runtastic and it may very quickly become my new favourite heart rate measuring tool.

To measure your heart rate just place you finger lightly over your phones camera and light. The measurement is fast and seems accurate.

The app looks cool and has some nice animations.

But the real nice thing about this app is the history feature and the way you can save your measurements.

When saving your result you have the options of selecting a category from either: General, Resting, Before Sport, After Sport and Max (During Sport). You can also select how you are feeling and add a note.

In 'History', you're shown a graph and you can sort though the categories to only see results for example; when you were exercising, or maybe only when you were resting - so you can get an idea of your averages in each category.

If you want to get social with your heart rate measurements you can upload to runtastic.com, email, or share on social network sites Facebook and Twitter.

While this is not a medical product (and should not be used as one) and this may not be one hundred percent accurate, it's a cool fitness app and a fun way to measure and keep track of your heart rate.

Attack of the 'What's The Word - 4 Pictures 1 Word' Clones!

Since picture / word quiz game 4 Pics 1 Word became popular it has created a lot of clones / similar app in the store. All of them are pretty much the same and have the same concept.

You are shown four pictures and they all have one word in common.

So here is a list of all the four picture one word apps I've found so far:

4 Pics 1 Word By LOTUM GmbH

Available for iOS and Android.

(Link to review)

4 Pics 1 Word: What's the Word By Itch Mania

Available for: iOS and Android

What's the Word? - new quiz with pics and wordsBy RedSpell

Available for: iOS

(Link to review)

What's The Word: 4 pics 1 word By Emerging Games

Available for: Android

Photo Quiz: 4 pics, 1 thing in common - what’s the word? By Apprope

Available for: iOS (iPhone)

I'm sure there's probably even more out there. They are all pretty much the same but if you're wondering which one you should download out of all these, I'd say go with the crowd and pick this 4 words game. It's available for iPhone, iPad and Android. I've tried it and I think it's the best one.

My Experience Playing - Infinity Blade - for iOS

Infinity Blade for iOS became Apple's Free App of the week, which is awesome!
Always wanted to try out the game but never bought it because it was $5.49.

After playing the game for a bit, was kind of glad I didn't pay for it! I get to why in a moment.

This isn't so much a review, it's more of my experience of playing the game.

Firstly, the game is a action, fighting game. You got your swords, shields and magic powers, build up character, ect.

The graphics are pretty awesome, so I imagine Infinity Blade 2 would be even cooler.

Story, well there's not much of a story - it's more just 'look bad guy' fight! And this is where the downside to the game begins for me.

Game starts, I got my character, I start battling a few guys, and continue walking through to this castle.

My character is building up his stats slowly, getting some more powerful weapons and after only a few 'bad guy', it seems I'm already battling the big boss (level 50) God King guy. Mind you at this point I'm like level 5.

So I'm like, "okay, seem a little unfair, but whatever." So the battle begins and of course I lose.

Now it's apparently 20 years later and my son is ready to battle to avenge me. My first thought was, "okay, maybe this was story setting."

So I start battling again, things are looking familiar  I'm building my character up even more (now up to level 8), and even by picking a different path around the castle I end up back fighting the big tough guy again.

At this point it's "WTF!, really." And of course I beaten again (unfair fight!) and it's 20 years later...

Really is this the whole game? Because if it is - this game sucks! Do I really just keep getting 'reset' until it's 1000 years later and I can actually fight him? Because it's not like other fights were if you lose it just restarts you... Well I didn't want to keep playing to find out.

Afer reading some info on the game, seems like their a bit more story and fighting after beating God King, but getting to that point is just lame.

Have you played Infinity Blade? Have any thoughts or comments, let me know!

What's the Word? - Another Four Picture One Common Word App For iPhone - But Which One Came First?

I could of sworn I reviewed an app just days ago that seems very identical to this one: What's the Word? - new quiz with pics and wordsBy RedSpell.

The other very similar app I'm referring to is What's the Word? 4 Pics 1 Word By LOTUM GmbH.

So which came first? What's the Word?  4 Pics 1 Word or What's the Word? new quiz with pics and words

Well according to their app info 4 Pics 1 Word was released on February 4th 2013 while New quiz with pics and words was actually released on November 8th 2012!!!

So that would make What's the Word? 4 Pics 1 Word the not original one right? If New quiz with pics and words is the same app as it was in November 2012, then you'd have to say, yes! So anyone writing reviews in the app store saying that this app is a rip-off of 4 Pics 1 Word, you might want to take that back.

So lets take a look at the first What's The Word app with four pictures that was in the app store (unless there's another that pre-dates both of these).

What's the Word? - new quiz with pics and words By RedSpell. is a word quiz game that shows you four images that all have one common word. On the bottom of the screen are jumbled letters that you have to choose from the make up the word.

You have clues that you can by with coins. You can buy a letter, remove letters, or by one more picture.

Simple word game, just guess the words from the images. A fun, addictive guessing game, that will keep your brain sharp and entertained.

Available for: iOS (iPhone)

Price: Free

Legendary Power Ranger Actor Jason David Frank aka "Tommy" Plays Power Rangers Legends Game

Saban Brands have released a new Power Rangers game for iOS (iPhone and IPad) devices. This one entitled Power Rangers Legends.

The Legends game starts right back at the beginning with the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Play as the Green, Pink and unlock the Red Mighty Morphin' Rangers.

The game promises that new Rangers from the later season right past Power Rangers Samurai to probably the new Power Rangers Megaforce team, will be unlock as you progress in the game.   At the moment only the first few levels are available to play. Lets hope they continue the game and not abandon it like other Power Rangers iOS games that never got new updates.

The new game is very similar to the Power Rangers Samurai Steel iOS game. It's mostly one on one combat battles with evil "space aliens".

Power Rangers Legends features power-ups, weapons, boosts, different gear... that can be bought in the 'store'. And as the the game doesn't really pay out well and they aren't shy about offering you some in-app purchases to get some extra coins, powers and so on. Not a great thing for a supposably kids game.

And this game is not that easy, and can actually be quite hard to win at. Not a great game for the easily frustrated.

The graphics are pretty good, 3D (not the glasses kind), Rangers sounds aren't accurate or they are not from the show. The Green Ranger sounds like the Red Ranger.

Power Rangers Legends is a cool game for retro fans. Wish I could say its a fun, awesome game, but its not.

The game is free for a limited time. If you're interested get it now before the price goes up.

And here's a video of actor Jason David Frank who portrayed the original Green Ranger and then White, Red, another Red and then Black and arguably best Ranger ever, playing the new Legends game on a iPhone.

Available for: iOS

Price: Free (for a limited time)

Watch Pokemon Episodes For Free on Your iOS (iPhone & iPad) And Android Devices With New App 'Pokemon TV'

Kids! and adults who still watch like to watch kids shows. Thanks to The Pokemon Company International, you can now watch episodes from the TV series Pokemon on your iPad, iPhone or Android devices via the new Pokemon TV app.

While its not all the episodes from the series, there is a selection from all over the many seasons.

The video and audio quality is descent enough most of the time.

The aspect ratio of the episodes seem to be wrong.

I think the episodes are commercial free. I didn't see any...

Would of been great if the episodes where up to date. The newest episode available to watch is from 2011's season 14.

A great must have app for fans, and nice of them to offer this for free.

Available for: iOS and Android

Make a face with 'iMadeFace' - iPhone App Review

iMadeFace By Keyloft, the app where you can make a face.

Starting the app, launches straight to the main menu. Your options are: Boy, Girl, Store and Gallery.

We'll start by choosing a gender. Next we get a nice quick tutorial of what all the buttons do.

Now you can go through and change all the different parts of your the face your creating. There are a lot of different styles and accessories - few glasses and some text. Not a lot of color choices unfortunately.

Once you've created 'your face', you can; save, share to various services like, Facebook, Twitter, email and others.

So that's the 'make face' part of the app, the other options, store - contains packs of items like "skull", "masks" and things like "happy" pack, you can purchase.

And Gallery, features the faces that you have made and saved. Would of been nice if there was a online gallery where people could share their creations.

Cartoon faces, customizable facial features and accessories.  Fun for a little while. Try and make your face, or a friends and send it to them.

I'm sure there could be a lot reasons you could use the app. Like a cartoon profile picture. Just for fun to see the many combinations. Or if you witness a crime - re-create their face!

I don't believe iMadeFace has a lot of 'replay' value. Once you've made a few faces, you'll probably get bored with the app.

There is a lot of reviews saying there is bugs and the app didn't work with iOS 6 and iPhone 5, but I actually didn't find any. The app worked flawlessly for me.

Also check out this post on Buzzfeed.com "28 Celebrity Portraits On iMadeFace". It shows that iMadeFace has the ability to make faces that resemble just about anyone.

Price: Free (with in-app purchases)

Winter Filter - App Review

Winter Filter By Guoyu Cai, I had hope but was left somewhat confused.

A photo filter app with a theme - winter! There are six different theme styles; Cold Star, Snow Flake, Cold Tone, Warm Winter, White and Light & Shadow.

And then it gets kind of confusing. So you have a filter, and now there are two circular arrows, one with a 1 inside the circle. Not sure what exactly each button is supposed to do. But after pressing them, they seem to change the effects or style of the filter. Or something like that. According to the app's description there is 70 different filters. I guess this changes between them.

The app isn't very intuitive and doesn't have any guide on how to use it.

You can save your filter picture to Camera Roll or share to Facebook. Saving also gives you some alternative size options.

Winter Filter has a nice idea, some cool effects, unfortunately at the moment I don't believe the app is ready for the mainstream users. There's potential,  but its not quite there yet.

Price: Currently Free

Available for: iOS (iPhone / iPad)

Qwiki The Once "Talking Wikipedia" Now A Video Creation App

You may remember an iPad app and website called Qwiki. It was like a Wikipedia that would show you images and read a summery of the information of a topic or person, location, ect.. to you.

Well looks like it didn't work out so well (I liked it) because Qwiki has now been re-released for only iPhone (at least for now) as a new video-creation type application.

Qwiki takes pictures and video from your camera roll and turns them into slideshow-like videos with captions and music.

Your Qwiki's are fully customizable, there is drag and drop editing, song selection, filters...

You can share through email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter. Set them to private or public.

Qwiki give you another great option to use your photos and videos and create a video memory of them.

Definitely better thought out than Vine. Although more complicated. Qwiki, even though you can let Qwiki do most of the work for you, takes some effort to really customize and make it just right.

And once again, I don't think we really need another social network to follow and add friends and like and comment on videos. But hey, you'll be sharing these to different sites anyway.

Take a look at the app demo video from Qwiki.
